Tokyo Docs 2025: Green Kids wins the Sunny Side of the Doc Prize

The fifteenth edition of Tokyo Docs recently concluded, running from 4 to 7 November 2025 in Ikebukuro, Tokyo. This year’s event once again brought together filmmakers, producers, and international commissioners for three days of in-person gatherings, discussions, and pitching sessions, welcoming more than 30 distinguished guests from Japan and abroad.

A total of twenty project teams and filmmakers had the opportunity to present their works before a panel of international decision-makers. This year, the Sunny Side of the Doc Special Prize was awarded to Green Kids, a Japanese-Brazilian documentary produced by João Pedro Bim and directed by Pedro Nishi. The prize was presented by Alexandre Marionneau from Arte France, on behalf of Sunny Side of the Doc. The award includes two complimentary accreditations to Sunny Side of the Doc 2026 and a waiver on the project submission fee.

Green Kids follows a group of Brazilian rappers in Japan — young second-generation immigrants, working-class misfits driven by the dream of hip-hop stardom. By day, they endure the grind of manual labor; by night, they ignite stages with verses about Latino identity and the struggle for belonging. Torn between Brazil and Japan, youth and adulthood, hope and disillusionment, they stand at a crossroads: can music become their way out and a bridge between worlds? Blending realism with poetic vision, the film paints a powerful portrait of resilience, identity, and the universal search for meaning.
