Marleine Van Der Werf
Marleine van der Werf (NL/ CH, 1985) is a filmmaker and visual artist based in Rotterdam (NL). Her films and installations have a documentary focus in which she explores the relation between reality and the perception of reality. In her collaborative projects she works with experts in the field of science, art and humanities to research consciousness and embodiment. These projects create haptic cinematic experiences in which our perception is challenged. She works with film, projection techniques and virtual reality to question the spectator’s senses. Van der Werf completed her bachelor in film at the St. Joost Art Academy and works as an artistic researcher at the Master of the Filmacademy in Amsterdam (NL). Her films and projects have been broadcasted at television and shown at numerous film and art festival like IDFA, Inscience filmfestival, Human Rights filmfestival in Seoel, Future of storytelling in New York, Art Basel, FILE Festival in Sao Paolo. She was the recipient of the Stipendium Program for Emerging Artists by the Dutch Mondriaan fund. In 2018 she won the NEXT talent award at Playgrounds digital Art Festival and in 2019 the Scientist Award in Abu Dhabi Imagine Science filmfestival and the ACT award by STRP. Currently she is developing new work about consciousness.
Project : “The Living Dead”
Synopsis : This multi-sensory project uses all the senses to create an out-of-body experience. An intimate experience based on true stories of people who feel that they don’t exist, the ‘living dead’. This installation uses wearables, sound, smell & virtual reality to immerse you in their story.
