COVID-19: Measures taken by Sunny Side of the Doc

Sunny Side of the Doc adapts its pitching sessions and remains committed

Three months ahead of its next edition, Sunny Side of the Doc is carefully monitoring the global impact of the Coronavirus outbreak, the bans and restrictions shaking the industry and the potential consequences on the 2020 edition.

We recognize that the creative and cultural sector is very much affected by the unprecedented series of cancellations of industry events and productions. The documentary ecosystem is losing the face-to-face meetings that are necessary to source quality content, share ideas, pitch projects, sell programmes, foster coproduction and distribution opportunities, drive business and most importantly, maintain relationships.

In such a context, our team remains responsive to the needs of documentary professionals around the globe and is now preparing the necessary reconfiguration of the marketplace event, in particular through digital alternatives.

A key Sunny Side mission is to promote international coproductions. Our competitive call for projects and pitching sessions are a highly-coveted platform for presenting fresh ideas to buyers and commissioners from the channels and platforms. To this end, our first commitment aims to guarantee and arrange, through an online solution, the holding of pitches and one-to-one meetings for the 36 most exciting documentary projects in our 6 categories: History, Science, Social Issues, Arts & Culture, Wildlife and Digital Experiences.
Content producers and creators can now submit a pitch for a 90€ fee until April 16, 2020*.
Other announcements and plans will follow depending on developments related to the directives of local, national and international authorities on health security, as the safety of our clients and staff is paramount.

Finally, we believe that a joint strategy is needed for the documentary community to see get through the crisis. The Sunny Side team is starting to reach out to event partners, festivals and markets in Europe that have been compelled to cancel in order to develop new synergies and collaborative approaches. We strongly invite any interested party to contact us as well.

*: This offer is valid until April 16, 2020, in line with our submission deadline.

Under the current circumstances, steps have been taken to facilitate home-working for each member of the Sunny Side of the Doc  team. All communications with our partners and collaborators are maintained online or via telephone calls. Do not hesitate to contact us for any query and further guidance.
