Canada, country of honour 2016

Sunny Side of the Doc is very pleased to welcome Canada as country of honour for its 2016 edition.

Meet internationally recognized broadcasters, decision-makers and producers at the international documentary marketplace in La Rochelle.

The Canada Pavilion at Sunny Side of the Doc gathers documentary professionals from all over Canada. Commissioning Editors, Programme Managers, Heads of factual/co-production departments, Content Buyers, Institutional decision-makers and Funding organizations will attend to the international marketplace! See them all in one place!

Canada is the only country in the world to have signed co-production agreements with more than 50 countries, thereby opening doors to numerous opportunities for multi-sector partnerships. Advantages associated with producing in Canada include various tax incentives provided by federal and provincial governments.

Over the period 2014/2015, the global production volume reaches $2.96 billion (9% increase) among $2.6 billion in television production (10% increase) – $302 million for documentary production.

For convergent digital media, the amount rises to $70.1 million in production volume for 340 projects, with an average project size at $206,000. Leaders of innovation and major supporters of documentary production, Canada is a key partner for coproductions of linear and non-linear projects..
