Asian-sideThe 8th edition of the international marketplace for factual programming and documentary in Asia will take place from January 30th to February 2nd, 2018 in Bangkok.

ASIAN SIDE OF THE DOC and local co-organiser MAXIMAGE have agreed to move its next edition from November to January in order to emphasize new market-focused activities and further develop the international industry attendance of established and emerging players coming from Europe, Americas, and Asia.

Thailand’s Department of International Trade Promotion – Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Tourism and Sports, Ministry of Culture, Thailand Film Office – Department of Tourism and Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau are co-sponsors of the event. Bangkok remains host city, to set scene to further acquisitions, sales and coproduction opportunities and provide a major boost for the local industries to reach beyond borders.

“Since ASIAN SIDE OF THE DOC premiered back in 2010, we’ve carefully nurtured our industry and conference offerings to establish a successful international hub for documentary buyers and sellers in Asia,” said Asian Side of the Doc CEO, Yves Jeanneau. “Next year’s edition should provide a meaningful response to the fast-growing Asian factual market, in particular in the 10 Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Asian Side of the Doc has the ambition to reinforce its leading positioning as a sales market and a co-production and co-financing platform for high-quality factual content.”

As a value addition, Asian Side of the Doc organises a project development workshop designed for ASEAN producers and filmmakers developing a specific project with international potential on September 19-22 at the Alliance Française Bangkok. Nine selected creative teams will take part in an intensive training programme and be mentored by a team of top industry professionals including Esther van Messel – Producer and CEO of First Hand Films (Switzerland/Germany), Christian Popp – Producer and co-founder of YUZU Productions (France), Pailin Wedel – Thai-American filmmaker.



Created in 2010, Asian Side of the Doc is a must-attend programmes sales market and coproduction platform for factual content in Asia.
