A pre-Asian Side of the Doc Master Class and project development workshop for Chinese producers will be held in Beijing on 19-22 January 2016

The aim is to provide Chinese producers and directors:

  • a better understanding of their own project and it’s international potential
  • advice on marketing and pitching their project
  • an overview of who’s who in the international market (in terms of broadcasters, funders, sales agents, and production companies for co-production relationships)

Master Class topics include:

  • Trends of the International Market
  • Who does What ? (roles of broadcasters, producers, sales agents, funders, etc)
  • Places to be & alternative funding opportunities
  • The Art of Pitching

Public screenings will also be organized at the French Institute to view internationally acclaimed documentaries.

ciccThe 4-day training programme will end with a pitching session, in front of the trainers, a jury, and the audience. From this, 6 projects will be selected and invited to pitch their projects at the Chinese Pitch sponsored by CICC to be held on March 16th in Xiamen, the day before Asian Side of the Doc.

One or two of these projects will then be selected to pitch during the main pitch at Asian Side of the Doc from 17-20th March in front of leading international decision makers attending the marketplace event.

The other 6 creative teams will be able to attend Asian Side of the Doc as observers.

Asian Side of the Doc is committed to improving the creation of high-quality documentaries providing an effective communication and training platform between Chinese creative professionals and potential international partners.

Second session: 20 March 2016 just before Asian Side of the Doc

For the 6 selected projects: A 1 ½ day session of intensive work on the projects with trainers. The 6 projects will be pitched by their teams during the Chinese Pitch session on March 21st, in front of international decision makers and a jury.

The two best Chinese pitches will then compete again during the international pitching session at Asian Side of the Doc 2016.
